Very Downton Abbey / Great Gatsby!
Would Make a GORGEOUS GIFT.
A beautiful vintage Art Deco Revival Czech long flapper style necklace made up of faux turquoise beads, known as ‘Hubbell beads’, along with lustrous glass pearls. The two types of beads look lovely together, particularly with the shiny golden eloxal chain. Fabulously long, making it very versatile and long enough to be worn in a variety of different ways. Signed ‘Made Czechoslov’ on the jump ring. Rare and Highly Sought After. Made circa 1960’s.
John Lorenzo Hubbell purchased a trading post in Arizona in 1878. He named it the ‘Hubbell Trading Post’. He provided goods to the Navajo and Hopi people, as well as other tribes and thousands of traders and settlers. He bought large quantities of beads from Bohemia Czechoslovakia, which looked just like the turquoise stones that were native to Arizona. He sold these beads to the native people, who made them into jewellery, baskets and other works of art. He then bought these back to be sold at the trading post – thus making a massive contribution to the Indian arts & craft market.
Everything is ALL ORIGINAL.
